Wondering what you can expect when getting started in therapy?

We understand that taking the first step of asking for help can sometimes be intimidating. Our team at Crosswinds Counseling commends you for beginning this journey of healing. Your future self will say "thank you!"

What to expect when you reach out to Crosswinds Counseling

1. Contact Us

There are several ways you can reach us to get started.

  1. Call: (877) 594-9204
  2. Text: (260) 238-8939
  3. Email: info@crosswinds.org
  4. Online Contact Form

2. Speak with a Crosswinds Representative

Once you take that first step, a Crosswinds Representative will respond to you within 1 business day, if not sooner. This person is part of our friendly Crosswinds team, and they will ask you a few questions to get you enrolled.

Here are a few questions that you can expect to be asked so we can better match you with a therapist:

  1. Where do you reside?
  2. Are you calling about services for yourself or for someone else?
  3. Are you needing individual, couples, or family counseling?
  4. Do you prefer to meet with a male or female therapist?
  5. Do you prefer in-office counseling or online counseling?
  6. What is your schedule? If you are doing counseling with someone else, what is the other person’s schedule?
  7. How will you plan to pay for counseling? (insurance, self-pay, etc)
  8. In a brief overview, why are you seeking services?

Note: Prior to calling Crosswinds, please check with your insurance provider to see who your mental health benefits are provided by as well as what your specific benefits are.

If you’re calling for the first time, please expect the call to last 10 to 15 minutes.

We are happy to connect with you Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Please expect a delayed response outside of normal business hours.

3. Complete New Client Paperwork

Once your appointment is successfully scheduled, you will receive New Client Paperwork. Completion is required prior to your first appointment. You will also receive an email with the day, time, and location of the appointment, along your therapist’s name.

If you wish to learn more about your therapist, you can find them on our Counseling Staff page

What to Expect When You First Visit

1. Complete paperwork

As stated above, you will need to complete the New Client Paperwork before your first visit with your therapist that you should have received when your appointment was scheduled.

2. Confirm Your Appointment

You will receive an email and text reminder 3 days prior to your appointment with the day, time, location (if in-office) or link (if online), and your therapist’s name.

Cancellation Policy: To avoid a cancellation penalty, please contact Crosswinds at least 24 hours prior to your appointment if you wish to cancel or reschedule.

If you would like to read about your therapist before your appointment, you can find them on our Staff page.

3. Find Your Location

Find the location of your appointment (if you’re meeting at one of our counseling offices) and figure out how much time it will take you to get there.

4. Sign In Once Your Arrive

Once you arrive, you will check in with the Office Coordinator. Bring your payment method and insurance card if that information has not already been submitted previously during your enrollment process.

If you were unable to complete the New Client Paperwork, please show up a few minutes early to your appointment in order to complete that.

5. Meet Your Therapist

Finally, you will meet your therapist! During the first session with your therapist, they will try to get to know you and have you explain why you are seeking counseling. Our approach at Crosswinds Counseling is client-driven, meaning you get to work on what you want to work on. It is up to you what you want to talk about. Our therapists are there to guide you through your journey.
