Everyone Wants To Be Understood
Is your child struggling? Are you having a tough time connecting with them? He or she may have a special need, have
difficulty understanding feelings related to past trauma, or maybe life has just become challenging, and your child
needs to sort through these very common and yet at times overwhelming emotions. Whatever the case, you are
looking for new resources. It is time to look into counseling. You want tools to not only help your child function better
at home and in the world, but you also want to equip your child to process and handle their emotions in a healthier
way.
I meet each child with compassion. Everyone wants to be understood. That means understanding oneself and being
understood by others. I often use client-centered play therapy to assess where a child is functionally and emotionally.
Sessions become more structured as a child progresses in their ability to understand their emotions and work toward
their goals.
When I work with adults, I often use Motivational Interviewing, CBT, and DBT to help them reach their goals. I usually start by asking adult clients the last time they felt like they were moving in the right direction. I then help them get to that place again.
