In-School counseling FAQs

A professional Crosswinds’ Counselor will be counseling your child. All of Crosswinds’ Counselors have at least a master’s level license in counseling and have been trained to work with the age group of the school they are placed at. Our counselors are trained in evidence-based practices and provide a safe judgement-free environment for each student that is seen.

If you are noticing changes in behaviors or that your child is struggling at school, at home, or in the community, you may want to consider counseling for your child/teen. Counseling can give your child/teen words and understanding to handle life stressors in a better way. You may also want to consider counseling for your child/teen if he/she has recently experienced a significant life change or is having a hard time managing emotions.

Yes, the counselor will send a welcome email to the email of the parent/guardian on the consent form. The parent/guardian can contact the counselor via the phone number or email that is listed in the welcome email. The counselor will reach out to the parent/guardian about safety concerns or anything the counselor feels the parent/guardian needs to know.

No. The school is only allowed to know the schedule of when the student is being seen and if there is a safety concern such as suicide ideation or abuse/neglect. Everything else is confidential.

In-school counseling sessions are approximately 30 minutes. The number of sessions available to each student can vary by school. Please contact your school’s point person for more information.

In-school counseling sessions are at no cost to the parent/guardian. Crosswinds Counseling has a contract with the school.

Crosswinds Counseling has a contract with the school. Each school has a point person, generally the principal or guidance counselor. That point person can help you set your student up for in-school counseling.

Our therapists look forward to working with your child and helping them gain the words and understanding to handle life stressors in a better way. Remember, if you or a loved one should experience a mental health crisis, please call 988 or go to the nearest emergency room.
