Mental Health In Schools With Phil Erichsen WPTA 21 Alive

Crosswinds Crossing is grateful for the opportunity to speak about mental health in our schools Thursday morning on ABC21 Alive WPTA

Phil Erichsen M.A. LHMC (part of Crosswinds’ team of qualified and compassionate counselors), discusses some strategies for monitoring your child’s mental health as your child(ren) make the transition back to school.

Phil Erichsen stresses the importance of looking for warning signs of stress or anxiety as your student(s) return to school. Sometimes a child will express apprehension about attending school. Many children (and many adults for that matter, but especially children) have trouble vocalizing their fears and feelings. That is why paying attention to behavior is so important. If you notice a change in behavior, it is always a good idea to have a conversation with your child. Erichsen encourages parents not to avoid the topic. Provide encouragement and affirmation for your child. Ask open ended questions. Don’t just assume you know what your child is struggling with.

If you believe your child would benefit from counseling, Crosswinds Counseling offers counseling services for all ages.
