Increasing Resilience
Relationships are integral to our existence as human beings. We are not islands. Life can be challenging, and events and other life circumstances can leave us feeling vulnerable and alone. A therapist can be a nonjudgmental and empathetic ear with which people can gain self-knowledge, self-confidence, and resilience. When you work with me, you will have a safe space to experience the emotions needed and to identify any deficits and strengths that can help shape your goals. Together, we can help you figure out how to participate and thrive in life despite the things that are holding you back.
I decided to become a mental health counselor after almost a decade as an occupational therapist. I recognized that many of the comorbid conditions accompanying physical dysfunction also had a psychosocial component. I believe that holistic and spiritually integrated care provides better outcomes and well-being. I use psychodynamic approaches which focus on alleviation of symptoms to help you lead a healthier life. I’m also trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which focuses on examining and challenging automatic (and often irrational) beliefs to manage our feelings and behaviors.
It is my belief that with self-reflection, maintaining a benevolent curiosity towards our inner lives, and the relationship between the therapist and client, we can foster a deeper understanding of the problems we face. My primary goal with my clients is to empower and help develop the skills and insight needed for increasing resilience to face life adversities.
